In water alkylation of amines with alcohols through a borrowing hydrogen process catalysed by ruthenium nanoparticles

Risi, Caterina,Calamante, Massimo,Cini, Elena,Faltoni, Valentina,Petricci, Elena,Rosati, Filippo,Taddei, Maurizio

supporting information, p. 327 - 331 (2020/02/13)

A simple and environmentally benign procedure for the synthesis of secondary amines in water has been developed. Combining Ru3(CO)12, tetraphenylcyclopentadienone and a small quantity of TGPS-750-M surfactant, primary and secondary alcohols were alkylated at N employing equimolar amounts of aromatic amines in water. The reaction occurs under microwave (MW) dielectric heating with high conversion and high yield. When required, the use of biomass-derived 2-MeTHF or GVL as a co-solvent is possible. Under the influence of MWs, a Ru nanoparticle-nanomicelle combination was formed acting as an effective and recyclable catalyst. This protocol was also employed for "in water" cyclisation to synthesise biologically relevant pyrrolobenzodiazepines (PBDs).

Catalyst-Free Reductive Coupling of Aromatic and Aliphatic Nitro Compounds with Organohalides

Rauser, Marian,Eckert, Raphael,Gerbershagen, Max,Niggemann, Meike

supporting information, p. 6713 - 6717 (2019/04/14)

A rare reductive coupling of nitro compounds with organohalides has been realized. The reaction is initiated by a partial reduction of the nitro group to a nitrenoid intermediate. Therefore, not only aromatic but also aliphatic nitro compounds are efficiently transformed into monoalkylated amines, with organohalides as the alkylating agent. Given the innate reactivity of the nitrenoid, a catalyst is not required, resulting in a high tolerance for aryl halide substituents in both starting materials.

One-pot synthesis of secondary amine via photoalkylation of nitroarenes with benzyl alcohol over Pd/monolayer H1.07Ti1.73O4·H2O nanosheets

Song, Yujie,Wang, Hao,Liang, Shijing,Yu, Yan,Li, Liuyi,Wu, Ling

, p. 105 - 115 (2018/03/22)

The photoalkylation of nitroarenes with benzyl alcohols in one pot at room temperature and 1 atm N2 was achieved over the Pd/H1.07Ti1.73O4·H2O nanosheets. The sample shows efficient photocatalytic activity with high conversion of nitrobenzene (99%) and selectivity of secondary amine (85%). This flexible photocatalytic system is also applicable to other nitroarenes with high efficiency. Results of in situ FTIR, DRS, and in situ ESR revealed that the benzyl alcohol and nitrobenzene molecules can bind with the surface Lewis and Br?nsted acid sites in the catalyst via the H–O?Ti and NO2?H–O–Ti species. The formation of surface coordination species results in not only the activation of reactant molecules via surface electron transfer, but also the expanded visible light absorption of the catalyst. Moreover, in situ ESR suggested that the surface coordination can also facilitate the formation of oxygen vacancies in catalysts, which can greatly promote the exposure of Lewis sites and enhance the activation of reactant molecules. Finally, a possible hydrogen transfer strategy over the sample is proposed on a molecular level.

Magnetic nanoparticle-supported phosphine gold(i) complex: A highly efficient and recyclable catalyst for the direct reductive amination of aldehydes and ketones

Yang, Weisen,Wei, Li,Yi, Feiyan,Cai, Mingzhong

, p. 4554 - 4564 (2016/07/06)

The direct reductive amination of aldehydes and ketones has been achieved in dichloromethane at room temperature by using a magnetic nanoparticle-supported phosphine gold(i) complex [Fe3O4@SiO2-P-AuCl] as the catalyst and ethyl Hantzsch ester as the hydrogen source, yielding a variety of secondary amines in excellent yields under neutral conditions. The new heterogeneous gold catalyst can be prepared by a simple procedure from commercially readily available reagents and can easily be separated from the reaction mixture by applying an external magnet and recycled at least 10 times without any loss of activity.

A convenient and general reduction of amides to amines with low-valent titanium

Zhang, Tongxin,Zhang, Yan,Zhang, Weixi,Luo, Meiming

supporting information, p. 2775 - 2780 (2014/03/21)

Low-valent titanium readily prepared in situ from TiCl4 and Mg powder in THF is found to be an active agent for the reduction of amides which were previously considered to be inert towards low-valent titanium. The reaction proceeds under very mild conditions, and is applicable to all types of amides, primary, secondary and tertiary, to produce the corresponding amines in good to excellent yields. This new finding provides a practical, convenient and general method for the important transformation of amides to amines. A plausible reaction mechanism is proposed.

Sulfonated multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) as a new, efficient, and recyclable heterogeneous nanocatalyst for the synthesis of amines

Doroodmand, M. M.,Sobhani, S.,Ashoori, A.

, p. 701 - 707,7 (2020/08/31)

Sulfonated multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) were synthesized by chemical vapor deposition (CVD) as a new and facile one-pot method using acetylene (as the CNT precursor), thiophene (as the sulfur precursor), and ferrocene (for in situ liberation of metal nanoparticles as the CNT nanocatalyst). A low catalytic amount of the resulting sulfonated MWCNTs with a turnover number (TON) up to 980 and a turnover frequency (TOF) up to 11 160 h-1 was utilized as a new and recyclable heterogeneous nanocatalyst for the efficient one-pot synthesis of various amines (secondary and tertiary) by direct reductive amination of aldehydes and ketones using NaBH4. The catalyst was easily isolated from the reaction mixture by simple filtration and reused at least five times without significant degradation in activity.

Highly reactive, general and long-lived catalysts for palladium-catalyzed amination of heteroaryl and aryl chlorides, bromides, and iodides: Scope and structure-activity relationships

Shen, Qilong,Ogata, Tokutaro,Hartwig, John F.

, p. 6586 - 6596 (2008/12/22)

We describe a systematic study of the scope and relationship between ligand structure and activity for a highly efficient and selective class of catalysts containing sterically hindered chelating alkylphosphines for the amination of heteroaryl and aryl chlorides, bromides, and iodides. In the presence of this catalyst, aryl and heteroaryl chlorides, bromides, and iodides react with many primary amines in high yields with part-per-million quantities of palladium precursor and ligand. Many reactions of primary amines with both heteroaryl and aryl chlorides, bromides, and iodides occur to completion with 0.0005-0.05 mol % catalyst. A comparison of the reactivity of this catalyst for the coupling of primary amines at these loadings is made with catalysts generated from hindered monophosphines and carbenes, and these data illustrate the benefits of chelation. Studies on structural variants of the most active catalyst indicate that a rigid backbone in the bidentate structure, strong electron donation, and severe hindrance all contribute to its high reactivity. Thus, these complexes constitute a fourth-generation catalyst for the amination of aryl halides, whose activity complements catalysts based on monophosphines and carbenes.
