A simple method for the synthesis of highly functionalized 2-amino-6-(methylthio)pyridine-3,5-dicarbonitriles is presented. In this method, pyridine derivatives are synthesized from the reaction of malononitrile, aromatic aldehydes, nitroketene dithioacetal in the presence of ethylene diamine. The notable features of this method are the simple Experimental procedure, short reaction time, and good yields.
