A new series of 1,3-dioxane-2-carboxylic acid derivatives was synthesized and evaluated for agonist activity at human peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor (PPAR) subtypes. Structure-activity relationship studies led to the identification of 2-methyl-c-5-[4-(5-methyl-2-phenyl-1,3-oxazol-4-yl)butyl]-1,3-dioxane-r-2-carboxylic acid 4b as a potent PPARα agonist with high subtype selectivity at human receptor subtypes. This compound exhibited a substantial hypolipidemic effect in type 2 diabetic KK-Ay mice.

Biotransformation of a series of racemic N-benzoyl α-amino acids by the fungus Beauveria bassiana ATCC 7159 results in isolation of the corresponding D-amino acid benzamides in high enantiomeric purity and yield.
Asymmetric Catalysis by Vitamin B12: The Isomerization of Achiral Aziridines to Optically Active Allylic Amines

, p. 2602 - 2615 (2007/10/02)
Achiral N-acylaziridines are isomerized to optically active N-acyl-allylamines in ee's of up to 95percent by catalytic amounts of cob(I)alamin in MeOH.
Composition containing a penem or carbapenem antibiotic

, (2008/06/13)
Administration of an N-acylated amino acid in association with a penem or carbapenem antibiotic relieves or eliminates the renal problems associated with administration of the antibiotic alone. The amino acid derivative and antibiotic may be formulated together as a composition or administered separately, either simultaneously or sequentially. The composition may be prepared by simple mixing.
