CIDEP Studies ot the Formation of Cyclohexadienyl-Type Radicals in the Photoreduction of Aromatic Ketones

Hayashy, Hisaharu,Sakaguchi, Yoshio,Murai, Hisao,l'Haya Yasumasa J.

, p. 4403 - 4407 (1986)

Photoreduction of benzophenone, acetophenone, and 2-acetonaphthone with tri-n-butylstannane at room temperature in some solvents was studied by CIDEP.The ketyl radicals were shown to be produced in the 2-propanol solution of benzophenone and in the benzene and n-heptane solutions of acetophenone. On the other hand, cyclohexadienyl-type radicals were found to be produced in the 2-propanol, benzene, and n-heptane solutions of acetophenone and 2-acetonaphthone.These two types of radicals, ketyl and cyclohexadienyl-types ones, were shown to be produced through the n?* and ??* characters of triplet ketones, respectively.
