80-13-7 Usage
Chemical Properties
white powder
Originator
Clordiapenser,Molteni Farmaceutici SpA.
Uses
Water disinfectant.
Manufacturing Process
20 kg p-aminosulfonyl benzoic acid was mixed with 400 L 0.5 N NaOCl. After
an acidification with 100 L 1 N acetic acid, a precipitate dropped out. It was
filtered off, washed and dried. The obtained 4-((dichloroamino)sulfonyl)
benzoic acid had MP: 203°C.
Therapeutic Function
Antiseptic, Antiseptic
General Description
Different sources of media describe the General Description of 80-13-7 differently. You can refer to the following data:
1. p-Dichlorosulfamoylbenzoic acid is a white, crystalline, photosensitive compound with a faint chlorine odor.Halazone is only slightly soluble in water at pH 7 but becomesvery soluble in alkaline solutions. The sodium salt ofhalazone is used to disinfect drinking water.
2. Fine white powder with an odor of chlorine.
Air & Water Reactions
Insoluble in water.
Fire Hazard
Flash point data for Halazone are not available, but Halazone is probably combustible.
Check Digit Verification of cas no
The CAS Registry Mumber 80-13-7 includes 5 digits separated into 3 groups by hyphens. The first part of the number, starting from the left, has 2 digits, 8 and 0 respectively; the second part has 2 digits, 1 and 3 respectively.
Calculate Digit Verification of CAS Registry Number 80-13:
(4*8)+(3*0)+(2*1)+(1*3)=37
37 % 10 = 7
So 80-13-7 is a valid CAS Registry Number.
