  The modification was conducted on the 1,4-quinone moiety, and new  series of structurally related BrPQ(brominated plastoquinone) analogs were designed as shown in Fig. 2, synthesized, structurally characterized, and evaluated for their in vitro antimicrobial activity against a panel of gram-positive  and gram-negative bacterial strains in addition to three fungal strains.
