  • The Ways to Prevent Iron-Deficiency Anemia for Children
  • Anemia is a kind of common disease among children. It can be divided into hemolytic anemia, -deficiency anemia, megaloblastic anemia and secondary anemia. The rate of getting iron-deficiency anemia is much higher among children. According to the medical research, the morbidity rate of iron-deficiency anemia has reached to 21.7%. Iron is a kind of trace element needed by the human body. The harms of such a kind of disease mainly include the slow brain development and physical development. The main symptoms are pale face, dizziness, slow response, short height and anorexia. Because of the slow development of the disease symptoms, it is difficult for parents and children to observe and treat in time.

Many people think the children will never get anemia if children always eat well. However, the excessive intake of protein, fat and sugar does not mean that other essential nutrients like iron, calcium and zinc are also enough inside the babies’ bodies. In fact, the supplementation of nutrients is very imbalanced. The intake of fat and sugar is high, but the intake of trace elements is obviously inadequate. Although the content of iron contained in the foods is not low, the wrong collocation of foods can lead to the low absorption of iron and finally cause anemia.

In order to prevent the iron-deficiency anemia for babies, parents should choose breast feeding as far as possible. Breast milk is the best food for babies. Although the content of iron contained in breast milk is low, the absorption rate is relatively high. For new-born babies, adequate breast milk can help them avoid getting anemia. In addition, the supplementation of supplementary foods should be timely. Many of the supplementary foods contain abundant iron, such as egg yolk and lean meat. The foods containing abundant vitamin C should also be provided for children, which can improve the absorption of iron. The collocation of suitable foods also plays an important role in accelerating the absorption of iron for children. The young children with serious anemia should be sent to hospital. After the basic check, the suitable treating ways can be decided. Generally speaking, the treating ways of supplementing iron should be applied to the children with serious anemia under the guidance of the doctors.

In short, parents should pay attention to the concrete situations of their children so as to judge whether their children get anemia or not. If they get anemia, suitable ways such as dietary therapy should be adopted to alleviate the disease.
