The monoazasterol, 25-azacholesterol-HCl [10454-60-1] and the nonsteroidal amines N,N-dimethyldodecanamine [112-18-5], N-ethyldodecanamine [35902-57-9] and N,N-dimethyltetradecanamine [112-75-4] were strong suppressors of beetle brood development, even at 50 ppm. In diets lacking yeast ext., however, tea seed exts. suppressed beetle brood development, even at 3500 ppm. Since all 3 sources of plant exts. contained a high concn. of saponins, the obsd. suppressive effects are probably caused by saponins in the resp. exts.
