Particle size affects more the HDS than the HDM. The mean pore radius limits the rate of HDM, whereas the total surface area only affects the HDS. Ni or Co used for promoting the HDS are not so important for HDM. The catalyst was prepd. at bench scale and tested in a fixed bed reactor for >6 mo. The spent catalyst still has a high concn. of surface Mo even after 220 days on stream. The refined petroleum had its concns. of asphaltene, S, and V reduced by 56, 62, and 77%, resp. .
