DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 72 (Electrochemistry) Section cross-reference(s): 67, 68 The polarog. behavior of Cu(II)-N,N'-bis(2-hydroxyethyl)ethylenediamine-N,N'-diacetic acid (H2bhedda = H2L) complexes was investigated.Chemicals with cas numbers 13291-61-7 and 10328-28-6 also play role. The d.c. polarograms of Cu(II)-H2L systems gave 2 well-defined waves in an excess of the metal ion at pH 3-9. The 1st wave (e.g. 0.034 V vs. SCE, pH 3.29) is due to the reversible redn. of Cu(II) for any pH studied. The electrode process for the 2nd wave (-0.205 V vs. SCE, pH 3.55) changed from an irreversible electron transfer process (pH <5) to a reversible one (pH 35) with increasing pH. Limiting currents for both waves were diffusion controlled. Logarithmic stability consts. of Cu(II)-H2L complexes were calcd. using the data from polarog. (log KCuHL = 5.24) and potentiometric titrn. (log KCuL = 11.3). The compn. of Cu(II)-H2L complexes was detd. by amperometric or potentiometric titrn. (CuL or CuHL+). Electronic reaction mechanisms for the 2nd wave are elucidated as follows: (3.0 < pH ￡ 5.0) CuHL+ + H+ + 2e- + Hg ? Cu(Hg) + H2L (mechanism 1, rate const. kj); (5.0 < pH ￡ 7.0) CuL + H+ + 2e- + Hg t Cu(Hg) + HL-; and (pH > 7.0) CuL + 2e- + Hg t Cu(Hg) + L2-. The std. rate const. of mechanism 1 was also obtained (kj = 2.04 x 10-4 cm/s). The frequency effect on the "cut-in" height for the complex was examd. with frequency variable Heyrovsky-Forejt-type oscillopolarog. The electrode reaction rate consts. for various Cu(II)-polyaminepolycarboxylic acid systems were also studied by oscillopolarog. .

The optimum pH range for the detn. of dissolved O by means of the Mn(III)-DCTA complex is 3-4. The absorbance of this complex is independent of the amt. of DCTA used (in the range 0.2-1.0 g) with water samples contg. a max. of 3.In this experiment, several chemicals are used like 7439-96-5 and 13291-61-7 2 ppm of dissolved O. Significant interferences are caused by the presence of CO32-, HCO3-, S2O32-, PO43-, I-, NO2-, SO32-, Ca2+, Fe2+, and Fe3+ at 500 times the O concn. .
