- Determination of the compatibility of poly(vinyl chloride) with a plasticizer by the spin probe method. Minsker, K. S.; Abdullin, M. I.; Gizatullin, R. R.; Vasserman, A. M. (USSR). Plast. Massy, (11), 49-50 (Russian) 1984. CODEN: PLMSAI. ISSN: 0554-2901. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 37 (Plastics Manufacture and Processing) The compatibility of di-Me phthalate [131-11-3], di-Bu phthalate (I) [84-74-2] and bis(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (II) [117-81-7] plasticizers with PVC [9002-86-2] was studied by EPR using 2,2',6,6'-tetramethylpiperidine-1-oxyl [2564-83-2] as spin probe. The plasticizer compatibility with PVC diminished to 0 at >38% I or >29% II; this was proven by the superposition of spin probe spectra caused by probe distribution between the 2 phases. The EPR spectroscopy makes it possible to evaluate the max. compatibility of the PVC with plasticizers and to det. the plasticization kinetics as the function of plasticizer nature and temp.-time conditions of PVC aging.

- Analysis of dependences of mobility of low-molecular-weight particles in a polymer on hydrostatic pressure in the framework of the free volume model. Kovarskii, A. L.; Aliev, I. I. (Inst. Khim. Fiz., Moscow, USSR). Vysokomol. Soedin., Ser. B, 27(2), 110-13 (Russian) 1985. CODEN: VYSBAI. ISSN: 0507-5483. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 36 (Physical Properties of Synthetic High Polymers) Equations were derived relating diffusion coeffs. (D) and correlation times (t) of rotation of low-mol.-wt. compds. in polymers with applied hydrostatic pressure by taking into account pressure-induced changes in the compression modulus of the polymer formulated in terms of a free-vol. model. The obtained equations correctly described changes in D and t of 2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-1-piperidinyloxy [2564-83-2] in polyethylene [9002-88-4], polyisobutylene [9003-27-4], and poly(dimethylsiloxane) subjected to all-around compression.
