The mean MAC values for halothane, isoflurane, and enflurane in mice were 0.95%, 1.34%, and 1.95%, resp.; the MAC values for the 3 agents were higher in rats. Neither the sex of the animals nor pregnancy influenced the results.

DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 1 (Pharmacology) The mutagenic effects of the inhaled anesthetic agents halothane [151-67-7], enflurane [13838-16-9], isoflurane [26675-46-7], fluroxene [406-90-6], and N2O were investigated (sex-linked recessive lethal assay in Drosophila melanogaster). Halothane and fluroxene produced a dose-dependent increase in the incidence of sex-linked recessive lethals, whereas enflurane, isoflurane, and N2O were not mutagenic.
