DTW, Dtsch. Tieraerztl. Wochenschr., 91(5), 193-7 (German) 1984. CODEN: DDTWDG. ISSN: 0341-6593. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 17 (Food and Feed Chemistry) Section cross-reference(s): 63 The biol. and pharmaceutic availability of sulfadimidine [57-68-1] from piglet starter feeds contg. the drug as a powder or as cold- or hot-pressed pellets was studied. Detn. of sulfadimidine in powder and cold- and hot-pressed pellets prepd. to contain 100 mg/g gave approx. values of 80-89, 42-74, and 54-68 mg/g, resp. Anal. of lab.-prepd. pellets showed only 25% contained >90% of the amt. added. In feeding tests with rats, the serum sulfadimidine levels (and the area under the blood concn.-time curve) in comparison with an oral suspension of sulfadimidine as std. were: powder 77.9, cold-pressed pellets 59.4, and hot-pressed pellets 67.4%.

Triangle Inst., Research Triangle Park, NC, USA). Report, RTI-31U-2344, NTP-84-092; Order No. PB84-192160, 222 pp. Avail. NTIS From: Gov. Rep. Announce. Index (U. S.) 1984, 84(17), 66 (English) 1984. DOCUMENT TYPE: Report CA Section: 2 (Mammalian Hormones) Section cross-reference(s): 4 The reproductive and fertility effects of sulfamethazine (SM) [57-68-1] administered orally to breeding pairs of CD-1 mice were detd. for 100 days of cohabitation and 20 days thereafter. A preliminary toxicity study using male and female CD-1 mice housed sep. was also performed. Based on results of the preliminary toxicity study, a high dose (MTD) was selected for the reprodn. and fertility study which may produce significant signs of toxicity while allowing 390% survival in CD-1 mice treated for 14 days. Two lower doses of SM were also studied. Detn. of the affected sex and(or) assessment of the reproductive capability of the off-spring was also done.
