- Involvement of brain monoaminergic system in the effect of Met-enkephalin on learning and memory. Kruglikov, R. I.; Orlova, N. V.; Getsova, V. M.; Mats, V. N. (Inst. Higher Nerv. Act. Neurophysiol., Moscow, USSR). Neirokhimiya, 2(1), 3-10 (Russian) 1983. CODEN: NERODV. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 2 (Mammalian Hormones) Methionine-enkephalin [58569-55-4] (25 mg) injected s.c. into intact rats before a training session (conditioned avoidance) had no effect on brain serotonin [50-67-9] or noradrenaline [51-41-2] concns. but impaired both learning and memory. Decreasing brain serotonin levels by administration of p-chlorophenylalanine or decreasing brain noradrenaline by elec. stimulation of the locus ceruleus or administration of disulfiram markedly decreased learning and somewhat decreased memory. When brain serotonin levels were increased by administration of 5-hydroxytryptophan or noradrenaline levels were increased by administration of L-dopa, learning and memory were also impaired. However, when these pharmacol. alterations in the brain monoaminergic systems were performed after methionine-enkephalin administration learning and memory responses tended to normalize, esp.Except for chemicals metioned above, 50-67-9 and 58569-55-4 are also used. in animals with elevated brain amines. .

- The mRNA population in the liver, kidney and brain of young and senescent mice: analysis of in vitro translation products. Anzai, Kaijiro; Imazato, Chiyuki; Goto, Sataro (Fac. Pharm. Sci., Toho Univ., Funabashi 274, Japan). Mech. Ageing Dev., 23(2), 137-50 (English) 1983. CODEN: MAGDA3. ISSN: 0047-6374. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 13 (Mammalian Biochemistry) Possible alterations in the population of poly(A)-contg. mRNA during aging were investigated by translation in vitro of poly(A)-contg. mRNA from the liver, kidney, and brain of male ddY mice at 2-11 (young adult), 12-17 (middle-aged adult), and 18-29 (senescent) mo of age. [35S]Methionine-labeled translation products were analyzed by 2-dimensional polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis followed by fluorog. A protein product with a mol. wt. of 30,000 and isoelec. point of 6.5 was reproducibly obsd. only in the fluorograms of translation products of poly(A)-contg. mRNA derived from the livers of senescent mice (24.5 mo old). However, no age-related change was detected in the translation products of the kidney and brain. Thus, gene expression in liver cells changes at the level of the population of cytoplasmic poly(A)-contg. mRNA during aging.
