- Uracil enhancement of 5-fluorodeoxyuridine incorporation into human breast carcinoma deoxyribonucleic acid. Kufe, Donald W.; Herrick, David; Gunner, Lori (Dana-Farber Cancer Inst., Harvard Med. Sch., Boston, MA 02115, USA). Biochem. Pharmacol., 33(14), 2329-31 (English) 1984. CODEN: BCPCA6. ISSN: 0006-2952. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 1 (Pharmacology) Uracil [66-22-8] (0-15 mM) enhanced the incorporation of 3H-labeled 5-fluorodeoxyuridine (I) [50-91-9] into human breast carcinoma DNA; this effect was concn.-dependent. However, uracil did not enhance incorporation of I into RNA. The results are discussed with respect to the cytotoxic mechanisms of I.
- Effect of adenine, uracil and uridine on growth, urine volume and kidney weight of rats
- Effect of adenine, uracil and uridine on growth, urine volume and kidney weight of rats. Savaiano, D. A.; Clifford, A. J. (Dep. Nutr., Univ. California, Davis, Calif., USA). Nutr. Rep. Int., 17(1), 57-62 (English) 1978. CODEN: NURIBL. ISSN: 0029-6635. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 18 (Animal Nutrition) Section cross-reference(s): 4 Young rats were fed diets supplemented with adenine [73-24-5], uracil [66-22-8], uridine [58-96-8], adenine + uracil and adenine + uridine for a 14-day test period, and the indicators of adenine toxicity, growth rate, urine vol., and kidney wt. were measured. Uracil partially reversed the growth depressing effect of adenine. Uridine, on the other hand, intensified these effects. Uracil also attenuated the effects of adenine on urine vol. and kidney wt. while uridine had th opposite effect. Thus, adenine toxicity in the intact rat could not be completely reversed with dietary supplements of pyrimidines and consequently, the mechanism for the growth-depressing effects of adenine involved factors other than, or in addn. to, a deficiency of pyrimidines.
