- Some effects of CGA 72662 on larval development in the housefly, Musca domestica (L.). Price, N. R.; Stubbs, M. R. (Agric. Sci. Serv., Minist. Agric. Fish. Food, Slough/Berks., UK). Int. J. Invertebr. Reprod. Dev., 7(2), 119-26 (English) 1984. CODEN: IJIDE2. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 5 (Agrochemical Bioregulators) Normal housefly larvae developed cuticular abnormalities several days after being transferred to diets treated with 0.25-2.00 ppm CGA 72662 (I) [66215-27-8] regardless of their stage of development. The lack of structural features and an apparent dissoln. of the matrix layering pattern in the larval cuticle, which prior to treatment had been normal, suggests that chitin catabolism may have been induced. The appearance on treated larvae of irregular sclerotization and patches of melanization indicates that the overall physiol. balance of the larval system may be disrupted and this could suggest hormonal involvement in the action of this unusual new larvicide.

- Effect of the insect growth regulator CGA-72662 (Larvadex) on broiler breeder production, hatchability, and subsequent chick performance. Brake, J.; Ort, J. F.; Carter, T. A.; Campbell, William R. (Dep. Poult. Sci., North Carolina State Univ., Raleigh, NC 27695, USA). Poult. Sci., 63(5), 910-16 (English) 1984. CODEN: POSCAL. ISSN: 0032-5791. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 18 (Animal Nutrition) Broiler breeders were fed CGA-72662 (Larvadex,I) [66215-27-8] at dosages of 0, 30, 300, and 3000 mg/kg (ppm) diet in a std. breeder diet from 25 to 65 wk of age. The 3000 ppm level was reduced stepwise to 1000 ppm from 25 to 27 wk due to a significant increase in male and female mortality. Feed consumption did not differ significantly due to treatment. However, birds fed 300 ppm exhibited significantly improved feed conversion and increased egg prodn. on a hen-day basis compared to those fed 0 and 30 ppm, with the 1000 ppm level intermediate. On a egg per hen-housed basis, birds fed 300 ppm produced significantly more eggs than those fed 0 ppm, with 30 ppm intermediate. Hens fed 1000 ppm produced significantly fewer eggs than all other treatments due to higher initial mortality. Body wt. gains for males and females among treatments were similar. Mortality was significantly greater at 1000 ppm than for all other treatment. There were no significant effects due to treatment level on fertility, early deads, pipped eggs, hatchability of fertile eggs, or hatchability of eggs set. However, late deads were increased significantly at 1000 ppm when compared to the 30 ppm level but not when compared to 0 and 300 ppm.
