DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 39 (Synthetic Elastomers and Natural Rubber) The copolymn. of vinylidene fluoride (I) with hexafluoropropylene (II), catalyzed by (NH4)2S2O8 at 80°, was studied in the presence of (CF3)2CFI (III) [677-69-0], I(CF2)4I (IV) [375-50-8], and I(CF2)6I (V) [375-80-4] chain-transfer agents. The no.-av. mol. wt. of the copolymer was detd. by the ratio of polymer yield to chain-transfer agent content. The mol. wt. distribution of the copolymer prepd. in the presence of IV or V was narrower than that prepd. in the presence of III, presumably due to a difference in the recombination of radicals. The terminal I atoms of the copolymer reacted with multifunctional vinyl compds. to form a gel in the presence of peroxides. The gel fractions of the monoiodide-terminated rubber vulcanizates were smaller than those of the diiodide-terminated rubber vulcanizates. A copolymn. mechanism of I with II in the presence of chain-transfer agents was proposed. The vulcanization of iodine-terminated fluoro rubber by 2,5-dimethyl-2,5-di-tert-butylperoxy)hexane [78-63-7] and triallyl isocyanurate [1025-15-6] coagent was discussed. .

I laser amplifier series was developed and the characteristic output was examd. The amplifier series consists of an oscillator, a preamplifier, and a main amplifier, which are pumped optically with Ar flash lamps. As the laser active medium, iso-C3F7I was used and in the amplifier Ar was used as buffer gas. The output of the amplifier series was examd. with TEM00 mode. The gas pressure of oscillator and preamplifier was fixed to 100 torr and the dependence of main amplifier output energy on the iso-C3F7I gas pressure was examd. The max. output energy measured is 3.5 J for a pressure of 40 torr. The energy gains of preamplifier and main amplifier are 12.5 and 14.0, resp., and the elec. energy efficiency and the energy extn. efficiency of the main amplifier are 0.16 and 61.9%, resp. The pulse width of main amplifier output was 80 ns for 150 ns output pulse of the oscillator, and the total power output of the entire amplifier system was 43.8 MW. .
