- Effects of N-acetylaspartic acid and N-acetylaspartylglutamic acid applied iontophoretically to some rat neural structures. Avoli, M.; Barra, P. F. A.; Brancati, A.; Cecchi, L.; Deodati, M. (Univ. Roma, Rome, Italy). Boll. Soc. Ital. Biol. Sper., 52(18), 1525-30 (Italian) 1976. CODEN: BSIBAC. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 3 (Biochemical Interactions) Iontophoretic application of N-acetylaspartic acid [997-55-7] to 4 specific sites in the rat brain reduced the frequency of spontaneous discharge of individual neurons. The percentages of neurons responding were 80, 75, 75, and 25% in the cerebellar cortex, cerebral cortex, thalamus, and mesencephalon, resp. The percentages of neurons responding to application of N-acetylaspartylglutamic acid [3106-85-2] were 100, 90, 50, and 50% in the mesencephalon, cerebellar cortex, cerebral cortex, and thalamus, resp. However, in the cerebral cortex and mesencephalon, some of the neurons responded to this compd. in a stimulatory, rather than an inhibitory, fashion. The above order of neuronal susceptibility to the 2 compds. followed those of the distribution of the resp. substances along the rat neuraxis, where the concn. of N-acetylaspartic acid decreases in the rostrocaudal direction and the concn. of N-acetylaspartylglutamic acid decreases in the opposite direction.

- Experimental study of the effects of six nonamphetaminic psychostimulants on effort hyperammoniaemia of rats. Guinard, Francis; Foussard-Blanpin, Odette (Lab. Pharmacodyn., UER Sci. Pharm., Tours F 37032, Fr.). Ann. Pharm. Fr., 42(3), 265-70 (French) 1984. CODEN: APFRAD. ISSN: 0003-4509. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 1 (Pharmacology) L-Glutamic acid [56-86-0], L-arginine L-glutamate [4320-30-3], demanyl phosphate [6909-62-2], L-arginine-L-aspartate [7675-83-4], demanyl N-acetylglutamate [3342-61-8], and N-acetylaminosuccinic acid [997-55-7] increased resistance to fatigue of rats subjected to swimming tests. All compds., except demanyl phosphate, decreased the exercise-induced hyperammonemia. Thus, the antifatigue action of the psychostimulants appears related to an effect on NH3 detoxication.
