For example, it can react with Phthalic acid anhydride to get 3,3-Bis-(4-dimethylamino-phenyl)-3H-isobenzofuran-1-one. The reaction occurs with solvent tetrahydrofuran at ambient temperature for 3 hours. The yield is 49%.

4-(N,N-Dimethyl)anilinemagnesium bromide can react with Phthalic acid anhydride to get 3,3-Bis-(4-dimethylamino-phenyl)-3H-isobenzofuran-1-one
