Barium hydroxide monohydrate is used in water purification, to make lubricating and oil additives, and to make barium containing chemicals. It is also used in analytical chemistry for the titration of weak acids, particularly organic acids. In addition, it is used in the preparation of cyclopentanone, diacetone alcohol and D-Gulonic γ-lactone.
