Nitro musks

Nitro musks are a class of synthetic aromatic compounds used primarily in the fragrance industry. They are characterized by the presence of a nitro group (-NO2) attached to a musk ring structure. Musk compounds historically derive their name from the musk gland of musk deer, where they were first discovered. Nitro musks were developed as synthetic alternatives to natural musk compounds due to concerns over animal welfare and sustainability. They impart a distinctive, long-lasting fragrance to perfumes and personal care products, often described as sweet, musky, and powdery.
