β-Ketoaldehydes derived from chalcone epoxides by Lewis acid-catalyzed rearrangement underwent smooth deformylation when refluxed in tetrahydrofuran (THF) in the presence of ethylenediamine, affording deoxybenzoins in excellent yields.
