A new general olefin synthesis, via regioselective alkylation of α-(p-tolylsulfonyl)thiane S,S-dioxide, 1,4-dioxa-7-p-tolylsulfonyl-8-thiaspiro<4.5>decane 8,8-dioxide, and subsequent Ramberg-Baecklung type elimination of p-toluenesulfinate and SO2, is here applied to the synthesis of 3-alkyl-3-cyclopentanones.
