A new synthesis of phosphaferrocenes is described.It involves nucleophilic attack of a phospholyl anion on a metastable cyclopentadienyliron acetylacetonate.The monoelectronic oxidation of the phosphaferrocenes thus obtained has been studied by cyclic voltammetry in various solvents.The X-ray structures of <η⁵-C5Me5Fe-η⁵-PC4(C6H5)4> is discussed and compared with the structure of <η⁵-C5H5Fe-η⁵-PC4H2(CH3)2>.
