Photolysis of the O-acyl thiohydroxamate (2), precursor to the (Z)-cyclo-oct-4-enyl radical, in the presence of ¹⁸O2 and tertiary thiol provides the labelled hydroperoxide (8).The parent (Z)-cyclo-oct-4-enyl radical is shown to undergo transannular cyclization only under relatively forcing conditions.
