Ketene and diphenylketene insert across the heteroatom-metal bond of amino-, alkoxy-, and alkylthio-pnictogens, R_3-nMX_n, to give the corresponding α-metallated acetamides, esters, and thioesters, R_3-nM(CH2COX)_n and R_3-nM(CPh2COX)_n (M=As, Sb, Bi; X=NR2, OR, SR; n=1,3), respectively.
