The complex [CoRh(CO)3(μ-dppm)2] (1), formed directly from Co(II) and Rh(III), reacts with CHCl3 or HgCl2 to give [CoRh(μ-Cl)(CO)2(μ-CO)(μ-dppm)2]+ (3a), with I2 to give [CoRh(μ-I)(CO)2(μ-CO)(μ-dppm)2]+ (3b), with sulfur to give [CoRh(μ-S)(CO)2(μ-CO)(μ-dppm)2] (3C), with H+ to give [CoRh(μ-H)(CO)3(μ-dppm)2]+ (4), and with Ph2PH to give [CoRh(μ-H)(μ-PPh2)(CO)2(μ-dppm)2] (5), all with retention of the heterobimetallic unit. The complexes have been characterized by spectroscopy and, for 1 and 5, by X-ray structure analysis.
