A new series of thiophenic isosters of thioxanthones, namely: 2-substituted-4H-thieno<2,3-b><1>benzothiopyran-4-ones and 5-substituted-2-nitro-8-methyl-4H-thieno<2,3-b><1>benzothiopyran-4-ones were synthesized as potential schistosomicidal agents.The synthesized compounds were characterized by their 1H-NMR data.
