Deprotonation of 2-chloromethylbenzothiazole 1 with lithium diisopropylamide (LDA) in tetrahydrofuran (THF) at -78°C gives a red solution of 2-benzothiazolylchloromethyllithium 2, which couples with carbonyl compounds furnishing oxiranes 3.
