Trifluoromethanesulfonates of germanium(IV) and (II) have been synthesized by reacting triflic acid or silver triflate with several functional organogermanes. Their characterization by ¹H, ¹³C, ¹⁹F NMR, IR and mass spectrometry is described. The reactivity with neutral or charged nucleophiles (protic and aprotic) has also been studied. In the case of neutral nucleophiles, the reaction appeared to be a good method for germylation of enolizable ketones and esters.
