Cu[P(C6H5)3]2B 6H9Fe(CO)4: Rational synthesis of a heterobimetallaborane from B6H10

The heterobimetallaborane Cu[P(C₆H₅)₃]₂B₆H ₉Fe(CO)₄ is prepared by the reaction of K[Fe(CO)₄B₆H₉] with [P(C₆H₅)₃]₂CuBr·0.5C ₆H₆. The species forms by insertion of the Cu(I) moiety into a basal boron-boron bond in the Fe(CO)₄B₆H₁₀ moiety generated by removal of a bridging hydrogen. This is the first report of a rational synthesis of a heterobimetallaborane from B₆H₁₀.
