β-Keto-δ-valerolactone 11 was prepared from 3-butyn-l-ol 6 in 5 steps (50 % overall yield). This lactone was added to Michael acceptors 13, 17, 19 and 25, giving adducts 14, 18, 20 and 26 respectively.
