N-Substituted β-alanines have been synthesized by treating o-aminophenol or o-benzyloxyaniline with acrylic, methacrylic, or crotonic acids.Their cyclization to 2-benzoxazolinones and dihydro-2,4(1H,3H)-pyrimidinediones has been studied.
