Treatment of N-lithioimidazole or N-lithiopyrrole with CuCN followed by an organolithium leads to cuprates R(Imid)Cu(CN)Li₂ and R(Pyrr)Cu(CN)Li₂ which show 'higher order' reactivity relative to RCu(CN)Li.
