A novel, iterative, stereoselective route to the synthesis of axially linked 2-deoxysaccharides

The title synthesis is described by 1,2-addition of 2-mercaptpyridine (1) on simple (2 and 3) as well as on sensitive glycal saccharides (7 and 8) to obtain the respective 2-deoxy 2-pyridyl 1-thioglycopyranosyl donors (4, 5, 9, 10). Glycosylations by the
