Silicon Lewis acids promote the addition of aldehydes to allylstannanes without transmetallation

The Lewis acids CH₃SiCl₃ (0.33 - 1.0 equivalents) and (CH₃O)₂SiCH₃Cl (1.0 equivalent) promote the addition of aldehydes to allylstannanes to yield the homoallyl silyl ethers 1a, 1b, 3-5. These reactions do not proceed via an initial transmetallation.
