Anchimeric assistance in the N-alkylation of 5-alkoxymethyl-2-pyrrolidinone derivatives

5-Substituted 2-pyrrolidinones are normally difficult to alkylate at nitrogen. The presence of an alkoxymethyl group at C₅, however, facilitates alkylation by a neighboring group effect.
