The synthesis has been achieved of the natural antibiotic actiphenol and its 4,6-bisnormethyl and 4,5-bisnormethyl-5-methyl analogues and also its 6-hydroxy derivatives, starting from 2-(β-glutarimidyl-acetyl)cyclohexane-1,3-diones.
