Enantiomerically enriched tetrahydrofuro[2,3-b]benzofuran (2), a penultimate intermediate in the synthesis of optically active aflatoxin B₂, has been synthesized employing the lipase-catalyzed asymmetric acetylation of the prochiral diol as the key step.
