NN'-Disubstituted derivatives of bis-(imide) of NN'-ethylenebis(iminodiacetic acid) were prepared by alkylation of the di-sodium derivative of the bis(imide).The hydrolysis and methanolysis of the bis(imide) and some of its NN'-disubstituted derivatives were promoted by copper(II) and afforded copper complexes from which the expected bis(half amides) of NN'-ethylenebis(iminoacetic acid) were obtained by the action of hydrogen sulphide.
