β-Functionalized organosodium and organopotassium compounds are prepared for the first time through a mercury-alkali metal transmetalation process.These new organometallics are characterized by in situ D2O hydrolysis.Dianions containing two different alkali metals as the counterions are also synthesized and their stability is compared with that of the corresponding β-substituted organolithium, organosodium, and organopotassium analogues.
