Dye-sensitized photooxygenation of enol ethers of methyl phenylpyruvates (3) produced diendoperoxides 4 in aprotic solvents, whereas in methanol hydroxylated product 6 was obtained.The reaction scheme is discussed in comparison with that for the enzymic transformation.
