The (2+2) photocycloaddition between aryl vinyl ethers and alkyl vinyl ethers occur upon irradiation of acetonitrile solutions in the presence of an electron acceptor such as 1,4-dicyanobenzene, giving predominantly cis head-to-head cycloadducts.The mechanistic features of this photoreaction are described.
