The N-arylthioformimidates 4a-e, which may be obtained by S-alkylation of the thioformanilides 3a-e, react with chloroacetylchloride/triethylamine to yield the (3R,4S/3S,4R)-1-aryl-3-chloro-4-methylthio-2-azetidinones 5a-e and the formanilides 6a-e.Dehalogenation of 5b-e with tri-n-butyltinhydride yield the title compounds 7b-e.Hydrogenolysis of 7b and 7c yields 7f and 7g. - Keywords: 1-Aryl-3-chloro-4-methylthio-2-azetidinones; 1-Aryl-4-methylthio-2-azetidinones; Dehalogenation; N-Arylthioformimidates; Tri-n-butyltinhydride
