Single step syntheses of 4-(4-chlorophenyl)-2-(4-dimethylaminophenyl)-2,5-dihydro-8-substituted-1,5-benzo thiazepines have been achieved by the reactions of five 5-substituted-2-uminobenzenethiols with 4-dimethyl aminobenzal-4'-chloroacetophenone in ethanol saturated with HCl gas. The structural assignments of the final products are based on the results of elemental analyses, IR, ¹H NMR and mass spectral studies.
