The dimer <(CH3)5C5Fe(NO)>2 has been prepared by octane reflux of <(CH3)5C5Fe(CO)2>2 under a NO atmosphere.Oxidative cleavage of the dimer with iodine yields (CH3)5C5Fe(NO)I2.Alkylation with two equivalents of RLi or RMgX (R = CH3, CH2C6H5, or CH2SC6H5) leads to the dialkyl derivatives in good yields.All compounds are new and have been characterized by elemental analyses, IR, mass 1H and 13C NMR spectra.
