Protonation by gaseous H₃⁺, C_nH₅⁺ (n=1,2), s-C₃H₇⁺ and t-C₄H₉⁺ cations promotes rearrangement of cyclopentane- and cyclohexanecarboxaldehyde to cyclohexanone and cyclopenthylmethyl ketone, respectively.The reaction was investigated by radiolytic and mass spectrometric methods.
