CONCLUSION
The linear SiC9 cluster produced by trapping the prod-
ucts of the laser evaporation of Si/C rods in an Ar matrix has
been detected for the first time. FTIR measurements of the
4() fundamental at 1935.8 cmϪ1 and its 13C isotopic shifts
are in excellent agreement with the predictions of B3LYP/
cc-pVDZ DFT calculations. SiC9 is the first silicon-carbon
cluster with more than six atoms discovered so far.
