15] Another plausible mechanism involves
a
1,2-bora-Brook type
rearrangement of the carbonyl bound O-azabenzotriazole via a three-
membered transition state (see references 6 and 7).
[
16] Efforts to demonstrate that the Barton ester is a transient intermediate to
4h were unsuccessful. However, we were able to show that 4h could be
generated from 4f and mercaptopyridine N-oxide, suggesting that the
Barton ester may be a short-lived intermediate to 4h. See Supplementary
Information for details.
