Chiral heterogeneous catalysts for the enantioselective hydrogenation of prochiral alkenes were prepared from chiral rhodium diphosphine complexes and Al-MCM-41. TPD of ammonia was carried out at 1 atm. The ionic interaction of the cationic complex with the anionic host framework may account for the bonding forces observed. A decrease of the weak acidic sites of Al-MCM-41 was also noted. These catalysts are suitable for the hydrogenation of functionalized olefins. The organometallic complexes remained stable within the mesopores of the carrier under the reaction conditions. The catalyst can be recycled by filtration or centrifugation. There was no leaching of the homogeneous complex observed.
